My name is Mel and Highfield has been an integral part of my life for many years. I have been in the care profession for over twenty-five years, eleven of them spent as Deputy Manager, before being appointed as Registered Manager in 2016.
I am committed to supporting our experienced and well-trained team of care staff to provide the best standard of care for our Residents in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Highfield Residential Home is a lovely, late Victorian home situated in the historic market town of Marlborough. It has been carefully modernised and extended, transforming it into a fully equipped comfortable and homely residential Home. Highfield overlooks the Common, where panoramic views of the countryside can be enjoyed.
Highfield is an established Residential Home providing full residential accommodation with 24 hour personal care in a loving, family-like environment to residents who, by reason of advancing years, find it difficult to continue living by independent means. We are able to care for residents with dementia and happily accept permanent, respite and short stay admissions.
Activities and entertainments are planned around the interests and preferences of residents with their full involvement. Daily activities offered mornings and afternoons include musical entertainment, sing-a-longs, gentle exercise, games, scrabble, reminiscence, craft activities, trips out and presentations on subjects of interest.
Tasty home cooked meals are prepared by enthusiastic chefs and menus are planned to meet the preferences and dietary needs of residents.
We never forget that our residents live in their home all day and every day whilst we, the staff only visit. We therefore do everything we can to ensure that our residents feel loved, relaxed and most importantly regard Highfield as their own home.
We have accommodation for 24 residents whose rooms have en-suite toilet facilities. All furniture and furnishings are provided, but we would encourage our residents to furnish their rooms in their own personal style and taste, and to personalise them with their own pictures, photographs and ornaments.
Our elegant, well-designed lounge and dining room add to the comfort of the home and our pleasant, easily accessible garden and patio area is perfect for enjoying the sunshine, reading or having tea with friends and family.
Any specialist equipment assessed as necessary to promote health and safety to meet residents' needs is made available and used by staff.
Mel, our Registered Care Manager leads a caring and experienced care team who provide personalised care and support to residents in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Staff get to know residents well and relationships are based on dignity and respect.
We continually invest in training our staff which enables our care staff to gain QCF (Qualification and Credit Framework) qualifications in care, which helps us to continue to improve the care standards provided to all residents.
Long Stay Residential Care
Short Stay and Respite Care
A senior member of staff always completes a pre-admission assessment to determine whether we can meet each person's needs. We ask people about what's important to them, their needs, preferences, choices and this information is then used to create a personalised care and support plan for the prospective resident.
Our Care and Support Plans are detailed and cover health care, personal care, hygiene, food, drink, leisure, activities, social contact, religion and environment (how the resident's room is cleaned, maintained and furnished to meet their assessed needs and preferences).
After admission, reviews of the care plan are undertaken at least monthly, with the involvement of each resident and with their family if appropriate.
A senior member of staff will make changes to the resident's care plan following this feedback. Additionally, we convene regular Resident's Meetings where we consult with residents about their daily life in the home and note their preferences and dislikes.
Our chefs pride themselves on preparing varied menus with a choice of genuine home cooked meals made from fresh ingredients, catering for all tastes and dietary requirements. The sweet trolley alone is always a tempting sight for any appetite, carrying a wide choice of delicious desserts!
Residents also enjoy freshly baked cakes and biscuits and a glass of wine if they so wish!
We strongly believe that motivation and stimulation promote feelings of happiness and wellbeing.
Our lively & interesting programme of activities and entertainment is provided both by our own staff and by professional activity providers. This includes musical entertainment, sing-a-longs, gentle exercise, games, scrabble, reminiscence, craft activities, trips out and presentations on subjects of interest.
Highfield is registered by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the body empowered by the Government to regulate care homes. They inspect the Home regularly to ensure that high standards of care are maintained and the reports they publish can be viewed on their website.
Of course we have our own comprehensive systems to ensure that we maintain the highest standards and we do this by actively seeking the views of residents and others through our care review meetings, questionnaires, residents meetings and informal comments or suggestions.
