Hello and welcome to Mile Oak Rest Home

Our Home

Mile Oak is an attractive older style house which has been carefully adapted to provide a comfortable and fully equipped residential care home for the elderly. Of particular note is the oak tree which is over 300 years old and from which Mile Oak’s name was derived.

Mile Oak is an established Residential Home providing full residential accommodation with 24 - hour personal care in a homely, family-like environment to residents who, by reason of advancing years, find it difficult to continue living by independent means. We are able to care for residents with dementia and happily accept permanent, respite and short stay admissions.

Activity and entertainment is planned around the interests and preferences of our residents with their full involvement. Daily activities include musical entertainment, sing-a-longs, gentle exercise, games, reminiscence and craft activities.

Tasty home cooked meals are prepared by enthusiastic cooks, and the menu is planned to meet the preferences and dietary needs of residents.

We never forget that our residents live in their home all day and every day whilst we, the staff only visit. We therefore do everything we can to ensure that our residents feel loved, relaxed and most importantly regard Mile Oak as their own home.

Features of our Home

We have accommodation for 20 residents and each room has en-suite facilities, some having their own bath. All furniture and furnishings are provided, but we would encourage our residents to furnish their rooms in their own personal style and taste and to personalise them with their own pictures, photographs and ornaments.

Our recently refurbished, modern and well designed communal areas add to the comfort of the home. Our pleasant, easily accessible garden is perfect for enjoying the sunshine, reading or having tea with friends and family.

Any specialist equipment assessed as necessary to promote health and safety to meet residents’ needs is made available and used by staff.

Our Staff

We have a caring and experienced care team who provide personalised care and support to residents in a warm, friendly atmosphere. Staff get to know residents well and relationships are based on dignity and respect.

We continually invest in training our staff which enables our care staff to gain QCF (Qualification and Credit Framework) qualifications in a care, which helps us to continue to improve the care provided to all residents.

Our Services

We offer:

Personalised Care

A senior member of staff always completes a pre-admission assessment to determine whether we can meet each person’s needs. We ask people about what’s important to them, their needs, preferences, & choices, and this information is used to create a personalised care & support plan for the prospective resident.

Our Care and Support Plans are detailed and cover health care, personal care, hygiene, food, drink, leisure activity, social contact involvement, religion and environment (how the resident’s room is cleaned, maintained and furnished to meet their assessed needs and preferences).

After admission, reviews of the care plan are undertaken at least monthly, with the involvement of each resident and with their family if appropriate.

A senior member of staff will make changes to the resident’s care plan following this feedback. Additionally, we convene regular Residents Meetings where we consult with residents about their daily life in the home, noting their preferences and dislikes.

Food & Drink

Our cooks pride themselves on preparing varied menus with a choice of genuine home cooked meals made from fresh ingredients, catering for all tastes and dietary requirements. Residents also enjoy freshly baked cakes and biscuits and a glass of wine if they so wish!

Activities

We strongly believe that motivation and stimulation promote feelings of happiness and wellbeing.

Our lively and interesting programmes of activities and entertainment are provided both by our own staff and by professional activity providers. These include musical entertainment, sing-a-longs, gentle exercise, card games, target games, reminiscence and craft activities.

Maintaining Our High Standards

Mile Oak Rest Home is registered by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the body empowered by the Government to regulate care homes. They inspect the Home regularly to ensure that high standards of care are maintained and the reports they publish can be viewed on their website.

In addition, contract and monitoring officers from Dorset County Council carry out quality checks on the service so that they can be confident that the Home’s good standards are being maintained.

Of course, we have our own comprehensive systems to ensure that we maintain the highest standards by actively seeking the views of residents and others through the care review meetings, questionnaires, residents meetings and informal comments or suggestions.
